 As the result of recent staff movements and the development of an exciting new Corporate Plan, council has been presented with an opportunity to realign its core functions and as a result this senior leadership role has become available.

The purpose of the position is to manage Council’s finances, public relations, governance and business systems and provide a range of community support, community services and engagement activities to enhance the lifestyle and liveability of the North Burnett Region. The person we seek for the role will possess the following: -

  •  Qualifications in business, finance related disciplines and/or community development are desirable and post graduate and management qualifications will be viewed favourably
  • Experience in Local Government (desirable) or relevant experience in similar public sector or service environment that operates in a corporate governance environment.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience in developing a culture within the department that ensure a proactive and strong department with a high level of service orientation and responds quickly to customer needs both internal and external
  • High level communication skills and the demonstrability of working with senior executive teams to achieve whole of council objectives and provide input into the strategic planning for a range of functions.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of best practice financial management processes, budget control, monitoring and reporting for significant projects.

About the Organisation

 

The North Burnett region takes its name from the Burnett River that flows through the area. The region has a picturesque environmental beauty and an abundance of natural resources that support the diverse agricultural industries and a healthy country lifestyle.   

 The region covers 19,708 square kilometres with the topography of the region being diverse from fertile farmland to rugged geographical formations. The Shire is located two hours from the Queensland coast and three and half hours from the Brisbane airport.

 The Council came into existence on the 15 March 2008 following the Queensland local government reform process which resulted in the amalgamation of 6 Shires – Monto, Eidsvold, Mundubbera, Gayndah, Perry and Biggenden, into the new North Burnett Regional Council. The Council consists of the Mayor and 6 Councillors.  It currently has an operating budget of $33 million and has over 200 employees.
