The Local Government Association of Queensland (LGAQ) is the peak body for local government in Queensland since 1896. We connect the state’s 77 councils to the people and places that count, advocating for their interests at a state and federal level and supporting their drive to innovate and improve service delivery.

 

With the backing of a diverse and experienced Communications team behind you, this position will play an integral role in the success of LGAQ’s social media communications. Reporting to the Communications Manager, this fast paced job calls for a dynamic and creative social media specialist.

 

The main focus of this position will be the creation of eye catching and engaging content that draws more followers to our social media platforms and increases hits on the LGAQ and council websites. Your creative flair will be tested in this role through social media campaigns, creation of digital media collateral – including audio, video and image content and project managing social service offerings for individual Queensland councils.

 

As advocates for Queensland’s local councils, our strategies centre on the advancement of Queensland as a whole. So it goes without saying, this role will suit someone who is community minded, with a good understanding of local, state and federal government.

 

Whilst we are open to graduate candidates, it is necessary to have a minimum of two years’ experience in a social media officer, specialist or freelancing role. Whilst we use Social Studio and experience in this social media management platform would be advantageous, we expect that your two years’ experience will have exposed you to other programs such as Hootsuite. Obviously a social media role calls for social media expertise, for us at LGAQ it is important that you have familiarity with Facebook Business Manager, Power Editor and both Twitter and LinkedIn advertising platforms. The successful candidate will also likely have a degree in Communications, Marketing or Journalism.

 

Initially this role is on offer as a contract position until February 2018, however there is potential for the role to become a permanent position.
