Director of Infrastructure
About the Region
Paroo Shire covers nearly 48,000km2 and incorporates the towns of Cunnamulla, Yowah, Eulo and Wyandra. Cunnamulla, meaning “long stretch of water”, is the hub of the Shire and gets its name from the picturesque Warrego River which meanders past the town and has proven a popular spot for fishing and water sports.
The Paroo Shire features wide open spaces and is an area rich in history, eco-systems, flora, and fauna. The Shire is highly regarded by bird watchers as the diverse eco-systems lend themselves to ideal habitats for many species. Its main industries are beef, prime lamb, wool production, goats, apiary, wildlife harvesting, opal mining and a growing tourism industry.
In the Paroo Shire, we are original, vibrant, hard-working and friendly. We have a strong community spirit and are welcoming to all. Boasting two schools, a safe environment, an abundance of wide-open spaces, low-cost living and many free and low-cost community activities to enjoy; Paroo Shire is the perfect place to raise a family or enjoy a relaxed lifestyle.
