Council has developed an organisational structure that maximises the effectiveness of service delivery to the community.  The council comprises the Chief Executive Officer and Executive Leadership Team along with three departments:

  • Organisational Business Services
  • Community, Economy and Innovation
  • Infrastructure Services

The Mayor, Chief Executive Officer, Directors form the Executive Leadership Team.  The role of this team is to provide consultation on issues regarding the Council's strategic direction and long term planning.

About the Position

An opportunity has arisen for a qualified, enthusiastic, and competent candidate to come up and work for Cook Shire Council in the role of Planning Officer.

Reporting to the Manager Planning and Environment you will be able to make the role your own and hit the ground running.  Aside from co-ordinating and attending pre-lodgement meetings, assessing town planning applications and liaising between other Council departments – you will write and present reports for Council meetings and the CEO/Directors on required planning assessments with recommendations.

You will also confidently be able to investigate, manage and resolve public complaints and enquiries.

About You

Renowned for being a ‘team player’ and for being self-motivated and flexible, you are also a good communicator who easily engages with a range of stakeholders. To be successful in this role you will be passionate about positively influencing the built environment, have sound statutory planning knowledge, a high level of attention to detail, strong writing skills and a desire to learn. 

If you are enthusiastic about planning and can apply sound policy-based strategic thinking to planning decisions and have relevant tertiary qualifications this is your chance to ‘step up’ and represent Council across the community, with developers, State agencies and other stakeholders.

Needless to say, you will have a sound knowledge of the QLD Planning legislation, ideally some local government experience and enjoy communicating with people from a range of backgrounds and work with pride as you represent the Council across the community.
