About the organisation

The South Burnett Regional Council is located west of Gympie and the Sunshine Coast and North of the Darling Downs. Is approximately a 2 hour drive north west of Brisbane. It covers the area from the Blackbutt Range through to the borders of Kilkivan Shire near Gympie.

About the role

South Burnett Regional Council requires two Works Engineers to assist the General Manager Infrastructure and Works Manager in managing Council’s Works and Drainage Department. It is expected that the engagement would commence in July 2021 for a period of three months with an option for extending the term for an additional three month period. Engagement is anticipated to be 40 hours per week with a maximum of 80 hours in any fortnight.


The Works Engineers will be integral members of the Works Team and will be required to assist with the delivery of a diverse range of projects including but not limited to stormwater, roads, bridges and DTMR projects. 


The Works Engineers will have practical experience delivering civil infrastructure projects and developing of construction and maintenance programs.


Key Responsibilities include:


• Provide technical guidance and support to the Works Maintenance and Construction Department, specifically gravel re-sheeting, bitumen resealing, stormwater  drainage, sealed and unsealed road maintenance, and pavement rehabilitation;
• Manage and develop construction and maintenance schedules with technical staff and coordinators, through the implementation of maintenance planning and systems;
• Have an extensive understanding of principles of pavement rehabilitation and bitumen sealing along with root cause problem solving of road defects;
• Develop and maintain budget reporting for projects and programs;
• Work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to deliver best for project outcomes;
• Perform regular site visits to monitor progress and manage site issues as part of a collaborative project team;
• Work collaboratively with the South Burnett Regional Council internal Design Department to ensure that designs meet constructability;
• Ensure that the works are conducted in accordance with the Work Health and Safety Plan, SMMS and Traffic Guidance Scheme;

These roles will work primarily from Council's Nanango Office with site visits as required. You will be required to supply your own phone, vehicle and PPE; a Council computer will be provided.
