About the Position

Public Open Space plays an important role in the community by providing places for exercise, quiet reflection, children’s play and organised sport.  As the Townsville community grows and changes, greater attention needs to be placed on the coordination around planning and design of Councils open space and irrigation solutions. In this role you will lead a team of 8 to create meaningful places, renew and upgrade existing ones with the aim of enticing and attracting people to visit these and meeting both the current and future needs of the community.

Keeping the customer at the heart of all activities the position will:

  • Apply management skills to plan, prioritise, mentor, provide feedback, manage performance, and promote team members to achieve the development of a high-performance culture and in so doing providing effective and efficient service delivery in line with Townsville City Council’s values and expectations.
  • Coordinate the outcomes of planning investigations to prepare concepts, project justification reports, preliminary cost estimates and work programs for inclusion in the 10-year capital works plan and coordination of design delivery.
  • Manage with team members any advice provided to both internal and external stakeholders pertaining to open space and irrigation matters.
  • Provide specialist advice on open space and irrigation matters in plain English reports that include recommendations or rectification plans to management and council.
  • Lead the development and maintenance of any standards, specifications, policies, and procedures related to open space and irrigation and or its management.

About You

Renowned for your leadership skills and as a passionate advocate around the creation and enhancement of public open spaces you will have extensive knowledge of public space landscape architecture and what is required to enhance communities.  You will have the right combination of talent and energy underpinned by a commitment to operational excellence. The position will suit an effective and decisive leader with proven commercial acumen, highly developed stakeholder engagement skills and a strong focus on the benefit this role will bring to the community.

A four-year contract is on offer with a salary of up to $150K + 12% Super and generous relocation assistance for the successful candidate. Future Learning and Development opportunities are supported together with reimbursement of some professional registration fees.
