Council has developed an organisational structure that maximises the effectiveness of service delivery to the community.  The council comprises the Chief Executive Officer and Executive Leadership Team along with three departments:

  • Organisational Business Services
  • Community, Economy and Innovation
  • Infrastructure Services

The Mayor, Chief Executive Officer and Directors form the Executive Leadership Team.  The role of this team is to provide consultation on issues regarding the Council's strategic direction and long term planning.

About the Position

As part of a well-established team of professionals you will provide assistance and high-level administrative support to the Director of Infrastructure and directorate staff ensuring the effective, timely and smooth operation of the Division.  You will also be responsible for liaising with Councillors, management, staff, and the community as required to assist in meeting the objectives and priorities across the infrastructure portfolio.

Your ability to anticipate necessary actions and effectively coordinate and manage varying expectations and daily workflows as well having an adaptive communication style will be essential to success in this role. You will be liaising with multiple stakeholders to contribute effectively to team goals, champion customer-led thinking across the business and proactively manage the Director’s schedule, prioritising activities based upon importance and impact to the business and coordinating internal requests for time and information to minimise interruptions.

Taking the lead, raising the bar, and pushing to keep things on track you’ll need to be resilient, tenacious, and confident enough to deal with a range of stakeholders and able to take the initiative to ensure exacting standards are always met in this fast-paced environment.

About You

If you enjoy working in the infrastructure environment and have a passion to work within a fast paced, diverse, customer-centred business, and enjoy supporting a team to deliver results, this could be the opportunity you’ve been searching for.

Most importantly you still like to have fun, have a down to earth disposition, and enjoy connecting with and getting the best out of others. You are organised, with an exceptional eye for detail and have a minimum 3-5 years in an EA or similar business administration support role preferably in construction and/or infrastructure related environments. The ability to show initiative, establish positive relationships and build rapport with staff and external parties at all levels will be underpinned by your discretion and confidentiality.  Understandably you will be renowned for your proficient use of all Microsoft Office programs including Excel.

The position will be based in Cooktown and in addition to an attractive remuneration package you will be provided with relocation assistance
