Hope Vale is located 370 kms north of Cairns and 46 kms Northwest of Cooktown on the Cape York Peninsula. Located in a valley, the Shire incorporates 110,000 hectares of land comprising various landscapes, including significant wetlands, freshwater springs, rivers, and beaches. The township of Hope Vale is surrounded by ranges, coastal dunes, coloured sands, and beaches. The township is a 30-minute drive from Elim Beach (home of the famous coloured sands) and Cape Bedford. The road is now sealed between Hope Vale and Cooktown which has improved connectivity to the township, particularly during the wet season.

About the Position

Reporting to the Director of Social Services your role will be varied and rewarding and will provide you the opportunity to grow as services expand and develop. Taking ownership of the Aged Care Facility, you will be involved with all facets of Council’s services in this area including the Aged Care Facility, as well as other initiatives currently being explored.

With support from the Director of Social Services & Executive Team you will manage the day-to-day operations of the facility - Bed occupancy, accreditation processes, staffing, rostering, budgets, ACFI, and the overall delivery of exceptional service. You will also contribute to the ongoing development of the Aged Care facility and services and bring a passion for all things people and importantly, focus on increasing the performance of the workforce enabling staff to bring out the best in themselves.

All systems are well documented and supported by clear policies and procedures, so you are walking into a well-run area of Council’s operations. In all likelihood there will be a handover with the RN who is there on an interim arrangement.

About You

As a Registered Nurse you are renowned for being proactive with a strong work ethic and take pride and ownership in your contribution and want to be part of a growing, innovative organisation. Your proven Aged Care management skills and ability to think on your feet and provide advice whilst striving for continuous improvement will underpin a passion to improve the lives of those around you.

With strong leadership and critical thinking skills you also have strong time management and interpersonal skills. Most importantly, you will be passionate about working with people to create a team environment and enjoy working at both a strategic and operational level to deliver a “first class” service to the community.

Ensuring the very best care standard, you will work closely and assist the Carer’s in the ongoing delivery of high standards of clinical care in a caring and supportive environment and ideally have the following skills and experience:

  • Current Nurses Registration with AHPRA.
  • Preferably 3+ years Aged Care experience at a Facility Manager or Care Manager level.
  • A strong passion for quality and leadership in aged care.
  • Demonstrated management experience in mentoring and supervising staff, monitor education needs and provide leadership within a team.
  • Evidence of commitment to continuous improvement and the delivery of a high standard of customer service.

The position will be based in Hope Vale and in addition to a salary of up to $120K + Super, you will be provided with private use of a vehicle and 2 bedroom fully furnished accommodation with no rent or electricity to pay.
