We are wholly owned by the Local Government Association of Queensland (LGAQ) and operate as a profit-for-purpose enterprise, with all our profits boosting the LGAQ’s work of advising, supporting and representing Queensland’s councils. Currently, Peak Recruitment is collaborating with a remote location local government client who is looking for an experienced Asset Accountant to be based in Newstead, Brisbane and serve this council remotely.

About the Position
The Asset Accountant will report to the Executive Director People & Customer or a nominated delegate and will be responsible for ensuring all aspects of Council’s financial asset function complies with Australian Accounting Standards and Local Government Regulations, including, analysis and reconciliation of asset financial data, and completion of internal and external reporting functions. As a strategic business partner, the Asset Accountant will work closely with Council and Asset owners, providing expert accounting advice and ensuring asset information is recorded accurately and in a timely manner, reporting and accounting requirements are met and the integrity of council’s non-current asset data is maintained.

About You
As a qualified Accountant you have the ability to demonstrate professionalism and a commitment to providing a high level of service and continuous improvement in your previous roles. Your “can do” proactive approach has made you well-known for your ability to adapt to changing priorities and your ability to work under pressure.
The candidate we are looking for will possess the following qualifications and skills:
- Demonstrated experience in financial and asset management systems
- Tertiary qualified in accounting or equivalent demonstrated experience
- Experience in asset accounting and budget processes
- Experience in asset reporting and financial analysis
- Proficient in Microsoft (MS) Office, with intermediate to advance skills in Excel
- Desirable is your working knowledge of asset accounting systems such as Civica and AssetFinder
Consideration will also be given to candidates who are ‘self-starters’ capable of getting things done and meeting deadlines for deliverables who are ready to step up to this level. Experience working with or for State or Local Government would be highly regarded but not essential.
