The Position

Reporting to the Principal Lead Engineering and Design, you will foster a good relationship with Planning and Operations and enjoy the broader experience this will give you vs the utilities or consultancies. Townsville Water & Resource Recovery is part of the Council so you will have good exposure given the direct link.

If you have done a similar role in the past and have a sound knowledge of the applicable codes and Acts, it will be an easier transition for you. Responsibilities will include:

  • Providing expert technical advice on the planning, design and construction of water and wastewater infrastructure particularly in relation to development applications.
  • Compiling recommendation reports/advice for senior management regarding applications for new service connections/ development proposals.
  • Assisting with the development and maintenance of water and wastewater design standards.
  • Integrating the established WaterGEMS and SewerGEMS models to assess inputs of operational changes and /or Development proposals.

About You

With an Associate Diploma or Associate Degree in Civil Engineering along with extensive experience in water and wastewater planning and design, particularly in relation to water distribution and wastewater collection systems you are keen to join a talented team where you will be exposed to planning and operations. Renowned for your problem solving and negotiation skills as well as for your highly developed interpersonal and communication skills you have experience in the multi-faceted stakeholder management required for dealings with the public, contractors, consultants, Council and Council staff, government departments and external organisations. Understandably, you are competent in relevant computer design procedures and computer analysis of water and sewerage reticulation systems. Other aspects of the role will require:

  • Developing a thorough understanding of all Townsville City Councils adopted strategic planning reports for water and wastewater infrastructure.
  • Demonstrating high level of competency in time management and organisational management skills with the ability to prioritise concurrent work activities to meet prescribed timelines.
  • Demonstrating problem solving and negotiation skills as well as highly developed interpersonal and communication skills with experience in multi-faceted stakeholder management required for dealings with the public, contractors, consultants, Council and Council staff, government departments and external organisations.

A salary of up to $106K + 13.5% Super will be negotiated dependent upon qualifications and depth of experience. Benefits include a 9-day fortnight, 5 weeks annual leave and 17.5% holiday loading as well as ongoing learning and development opportunities and generous relocation assistance.
