The Role

This is a key management role reporting to the Director Corporate Services. The Finance Manager assumes a leadership role in shaping the overall financial performance of Council through the effective management of the Financial Services team. The provision of expert advice to team members, managers, executive and elected members is a key responsibility on matters including statutory reporting, financial performance, annual budget development, budget reviews, financial sustainability modelling, treasury and cash management, rating, and payroll functions. Working at a strategic level you will lead the Financial Services Team to implement contemporary budgetary and review practices and customer service delivery standards. The role requires the ability to be innovative and to think differently, taking a ‘fit for purpose’ approach and adding some practicality to the financial support across the business. Ensuring high performing teams with a customer centric focus who deliver services in accordance with Council’s Vision and Values will underpin everything you do.

About you

With your specialised knowledge and expertise, alongside strong leadership skills you will bring an energetic and positive disposition to the role and be renowned for not only your skill in leading teams but for your strong budget development skills and for ‘working beside’ your team, ensuring a collaborative culture is evident. After working at a coordinator or principal level this could be the ‘step up’ to a management role you have been seeking.

With your ability to set objectives for yourself and others, you take a forward-looking perspective, and can deliver successful outcomes within agreed parameters. Optimising and developing contemporary business processes to enhance business outcomes, customer service, streamline operations and minimise costs will characterise your experience to date. Understandably, your financial and management skills relative to an organisation the size of Council and the communication and interpersonal skills to engage with all levels of staff and external stakeholders will be evident in your experience to date
