About Cassowary Coast Regional Council

Cassowary Coast Regional Council has embarked on a program of transformation and renewal to realign the business of Council with the Council’s vision.  Capitalising on the opportunities that the region has to offer, Council is driving a vision that includes providing great experiences, delivering value, and creating a sustainable future for their community.

Delivering outcomes that embrace value in everything they do is fundamental to a vibrant and prosperous community that ‘loves the place they live in’ and is summed up in their vision statement - ‘One Coast ... Cassowary Coast’.  It is for this reason that they are seeking talented, inspiring, and progressive employees to join Council and lead the transformation of regional growth and prosperity, organisation culture, council business, service delivery and value to the community.

The Role

Reporting to the Director Infrastructure Services the Manager Asset Engineering is a key member of the Infrastructure Leadership team and will work collaboratively across all departments. Working at a strategic level you will lead the Asset Engineering Team (11 staff) to implement sustainable asset management practices incorporating: Transport, Stormwater, Marine, Recreational and Natural Assets.

The role requires the ability to be innovative and to think differently, taking a ‘fit for purpose’ approach and adding some practicality to asset engineering solutions particularly around transport.

Leading an important business unit you will collaborate across Council with business partners and service managers to mitigate strategic risks and deliver an ambitious improvement plan, with the following three areas of focus: Optimal Service Levels, Assets for Now and the Future, Asset Risk and Resilience.

About you

Tertiary qualified, you have a sound mix of both asset management and transport infrastructure engineering experience in local government or been in a role working closely with local government. You might be now wondering what your next career development opportunity looks like and how you can still retain your passion for transport and asset management?

Focussed about being at the forefront of change, you are renowned for your engineering skills and abilities and can demonstrate your expertise in leading and manage a multi-disciplined team through change to help them improve the way they work, enhancing the employee and community experience. You will be excited by the opportunity to use your initiative to continue streamlining processes and to having responsibility for driving performance improvement. Regardless, your background to date will have developed your operational expertise to a level where you are renowned for your planning and programming skills as well as managing stakeholders and third parties.

Evidence of business and workforce planning, risk management, budgeting, forecasting, and reporting through analysis of operational information and trends are essential. Most importantly, you act with integrity, respect, and courage, showing care for the people you work with and the community you represent.

Why this Role?

You will manage a small team and have no delivery component with the role so you really will be able to get traction on several priorities for the community. If you are currently in a slightly smaller Council where you are doing everything and have less resources, this is a role that will allow you to concentrate on Asset Management and Transport Infrastructure but still use your broader skills. Essentially you can focus on being a specialist vs a generalist.

For those considering a ‘sea change’ this could be your chance to enjoy life in a beautiful part of the world in a role where you can enjoy all the benefits of living in a unique coastal location and where work/life balance is genuinely possible. The organisation is very ‘family-friendly’ and flexible hours are genuinely supported by management. An attractive remuneration package of up to $185K TR and relocation assistance is on offer.

If we have piqued your interest and you would love to live and work in the tropics – then call to discuss what could be a genuine, career enhancing opportunity.
