Are you experienced in managing and implementing enterprise GIS platforms? Ipswich City Council is seeking a Senior GIS Specialist with a strong focus on Esri ArcGIS Enterprise to lead and enhance its spatial systems and GIS capabilities

The Role:
In the initial stages, your primary focus will be managing the migration from a legacy GIS system to ESRI Enterprise, ensuring a seamless transition for the organisation. Additionally, you will play a pivotal role in upskilling junior team members, sharing your expertise and building a collaborative and capable GIS team.
This is a unique opportunity to contribute to projects with far-reaching impacts, including urban planning, environmental conservation, disaster management and infrastructure development. Reporting to the Team Leader (Spatial and Asset Information), this role is critical to driving the successful migration, effective utilisation and continuous enhancement of the Council’s enterprise GIS systems.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the implementation, management and optimisation of Esri ArcGIS Enterprise, including system architecture, permissions and integrations.
- Develop and coordinate governance frameworks, processes and procedures for enterprise GIS systems to ensure efficient and effective operations.
- Oversee the migration of legacy GIS systems to ArcGIS Enterprise, ensuring smooth transitions and minimal disruption.
- Provide expert advice on the architecture, management and maintenance of spatial systems and databases, ensuring seamless integration with ICT systems.
- Promote and support the use of GIS technologies, including mobile GIS solutions, across the organisation.
- Conduct and oversee periodic data quality reviews to maintain compliance and data integrity.
- Lead spatial analysis initiatives and projects to provide insights that enhance decision-making across business units.
- Stay ahead of GIS industry trends and recommend initiatives that align with organisational goals.
- Build and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders to facilitate the smooth flow of spatial information and achieve GIS objectives.
About You
We’re looking for a GIS professional with:
- Extensive experience in implementing, managing and utilising Esri ArcGIS Enterprise, including system migrations, setup and administration.
- Proficiency in SQL server management and skills in SQL and FME for data management and integration.
- Strong knowledge of spatial data management and the ability to develop frameworks, standards and processes that ensure consistency across an organisation.
- Proven experience in leading spatial analysis projects and implementing change management strategies.
- Excellent communication skills to effectively manage relationships at all organisational levels.
- Relevant tertiary qualifications in spatial science, IT, or a related field, or equivalent demonstrated expertise.
