The Positions

South Burnett boasts a diverse range of infrastructure, from well-maintained road networks and transport facilities to essential utilities and community spaces. Our infrastructure plays a crucial role in ensuring the seamless functioning of our region, enhancing the quality of life for everyone who calls South Burnett home. A recent project delivered by our Infrastructure department was awarded the '2023 Project of the Year’ at the IPWEA-QNT Excellence Awards, being for the upgrade of Kingaroy’s CBD named ‘Kingaroy Transformation Project’.

Program Coordinator Maintenance:

Provide leadership and direction to the Works branch to promote and deliver high quality outcomes to the community and to contribute to the corporate governance and strategic planning of Council.

Key Responsibilities Include: 

  • Assist the Works Manager in all aspects of the operational performance of the Works branch, including day-to-day management and strategic direction of the various functions, in conjunction with the relevant Coordinators and team members.
  • Oversee all aspects of maintenance program development and implementation across the transport asset portfolio. Lead the development of multiple programs including preparing plans, delivering effective and efficient scoping and scheduling, establishing appropriate governance, identifying, allocating and managing resources, and meeting reporting requirements to ensure outcomes are achieved on time, on budget, to quality standards and in line with Council's objectives.
  • Continuous monitoring and evaluation of programs, including risk analysis and contingency management, benefits realisation, and project impact and quality measures, to identify and address issues and assess program progress and overall effectiveness.
  • Ensure compliance by internal and external parties with corporate Policies, Procedures and Standards, including for the activities of records management, human resources management, workplace health and safety, information technology, and finance.
  • Prepare and present high quality written and verbal communications in a variety of forums, including Council meetings, internal and external meetings, community meetings and events.
  • Prepare and monitor the budget for the Works branch, including providing timely reports on variations to the General Manager, Chief Executive Officer, and Council.

Senior Project Manager Works:

The Project Manager has responsibility to coordinate and manage projects and programs within the Works portfolio, including major streetscaping, urban and rural civil projects, water infrastructure, and recreational facilities.

Key Responsibilities Include: 

  • Deliver multiple projects concurrently, emphasising timely, cost-effective and high-quality outcomes.
  • Coordinate Assurance functions to ensure effective identification of trends and risks.
  • Contribute to corporate processes, assisting in budget preparation and presenting operational reports.
  • Supervise employees, consultants, and contractors and actively manage internal and external stakeholders.
  • Contribute to section management, set outcomes, and establish procedures in line with Council's Project Management Framework.
  • Preparation in afterhours and weekend work is a requirement of this position.

Engineer Works or Senior Technical Officer:

Assist with Council’s road construction, maintenance and contracted work, urban and rural civil projects, water infrastructure, and recreational facilities.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Assist with works coordination, scheduling and prioritisation as per the Operational Plan.
  • Monitor Council's obligations under the Road Maintenance Performance Contract (RMPC) with TMR.
  • Collect asset data, investigate claims and prepare public incident reports.
  • Provide guidance to onsite contractors and ensuring WHS compliance.
  • Monitor expenditure, manage resource allocation and compile relevant reports.
  • Respond to public inquiries and provide information as required.
