About Council
The Napranum Aboriginal Shire Council consists of the Mayor and four Councillors. The Executive Management Team is made up of the Chief Executive Officer and four senior managers. The annual budget for the Council is approx. $20 million and there are approximately 70 staff and a population of close to 1000. As reported, the NASC team have achieved exceptional strategic, operational, and financial results throughout the last financial year.
Napranum has become an increasingly prosperous community with modern facilities such as the Mary Ann Coconut library and Indigenous Knowledge Centre, Council office and Civic Centre, QLD Health, and Apunipima allied health services, Aged and Disability Services including accommodation precinct, supermarket, a war memorial, Water Park and Waterfront development including Café, workshops and many new houses built in the past ten years.
The Role
Reporting to the CEO and as a member of the Executive team you will lead the Directorate to fulfill the strategic vision of Council and ensure building and infrastructure projects are delivered in a timely manner. Your dedication to unleashing the potential in people by providing them with opportunities to start a trade will drive your active role in enhancing staff capability and customer service to meet the needs of the community.

- Roads and Drainage Systems
- Major Projects and Infrastructure

About You
With building services experience managing projects, people, and general construction you are renowned for your expertise in budgetary control, job costing, quoting procurement and cost forecasting. This will be underpinned by your project management skills and ability to be hands on, meet program targets and demanding deadlines and for delivering high quality outcomes.
With a Cert IV in Building, Civil Construction or Frontline Management and ideally experience working with Qbuild (in or with Indigenous communities) you possess a desire to assimilate into the environment and enhance the motivation and skill levels of staff across the broader building services and infrastructure area.

Located only 13kms outside Weipa, which is the largest town on the Western Cape York Peninsula, you will have a shopping precinct close by, access to a range of medical services and clinics and an airport that enables easy access to mainland cities. The community runs alongside the Embley River on the Western side of the Cape and is renowned for its stunning sunsets, fishing, and access to amenities.
Given the fresh energy and motivation the CEO is looking to bring into the role, he is open to someone ready to ‘step up’ providing a strong ‘hands on’ background in building services (including procurement, tendering, and project management) is evident.
