About Council

Located just over 130kms from Townsville, Charters Towers Regional Council is governed by a Mayor and six Councillors and employs approximately 230 staff.

Once the largest goldfield in Australia, Charters Towers is now home to 10,000 residents and is surrounded by quintessentially Outback landscapes and is home to some of most unique experiences and attractions including many heritage listed buildings.

The Position

As an Interim member of the Executive Leadership Team, you will support the organisation’s broader success through assisting in the preparation and review of reports to Council, and lead and mentor the HR and WHS team to ensure they are delivering on Operational and Strategic Plan deliverables.

More specifically you may be required to provide strategic, operational, and integrated advice and direction to the CEO and Council in the following service areas:

  • Human Resource Planning, Strategy, and Services
  • Workforce Planning
  • Organisational Capability Development
  • Organisational Change Management
  • Industrial Relations
  • Payroll
  • Employee Relationship Management
  • Work Health and Safety
  • Rehabilitation and Injury Management

A strong IR background is preferable, and you will oversee the onboarding of the new Manager WHS as well as maintain the focus of the broader team to ensure the Directorate stays on track during the recruitment process for the permanent position.

Tertiary qualified in a relevant field, you are renowned within the local government environment for being a calm, pragmatic, hands on and values-based leader with an unwavering focus on the customer and community.
