About Council

Townsville City Council is the largest regional Council in Queensland employing over 1700 staff and has an annual budget of approximately $868M and community assets of nearly $9 billion. They see the world is changing so they are changing too. Their people and their jobs are as diverse as the communities they serve. With Townsville expected to continue to experience strong economic and population growth over the coming decades modelling for this growth and forecasting via an evidence-based planning system has arguably put Council at the forefront of innovation in this area within QLD Local Government.

Townsville City Council recognises the condition and quality of public spaces is a highly valued liveability attribute for the Townville community. It includes open spaces like parks and gardens as well as assets such as playgrounds and recreational facilities. Council’s goal is to prioritise the maintenance of quality public spaces and continuously improve the condition of public spaces, with a focus on providing for and valuing the city’s green infrastructure.

The Position

Are you passionate about maintaining vibrant, sustainable public spaces? Council is looking for a skilled Senior Asset Officer to help manage and enhance the city’s diverse portfolio of open space assets—including parks, gardens, playgrounds, and recreational facilities.

In this role, you will capture and maintain accurate asset data with cost, risk and condition information to enable informed decision making across Council's Open Space assets and lead the development of asset management plans, contribute to long-term capital works strategies, and ensure Townsville’s open space assets are maintained to the highest standard.

You’ll work closely with internal teams and external stakeholders to deliver data-driven insights and practical solutions that support the city’s growth and liveability.

About You

We’re looking for someone who brings a strong background in asset management, knowledge of open space and irrigation infrastructure asset types, excellent analytical and communication skills, and a genuine passion for public spaces. You’ll be proactive, detail-oriented, and comfortable working across teams to deliver strategic outcomes. The role will also require knowledge and experience in performing analysis in various IT and Business Management systems and experience working as an asset officer, maintenance officer or similar.

Why this Role?

This is more than just a job — it’s a career-defining opportunity. With generous remuneration, relocation support, and a strong focus on professional development, Townsville City Council offers the perfect blend of challenge, growth, and lifestyle. If you're ready to grow your career while helping grow Townsville, we’d love to hear from you. Your work will directly impact how residents and visitors experience Townsville’s green spaces.

If we have piqued your interest and you would love the chance to ‘step up’ and deepen your expertise around the asset management within open spaces or consolidate your career and live and work in the tropics – then call to discuss what could be a genuine, career enhancing opportunity.

If a ‘sea change’ is something you have been looking for this could be your chance to enjoy life away from the capital cities and to enjoy all the benefits of a big city but in a coastal location. Known as the Second Capital of Queensland Townsville offers a dynamic lifestyle coupled with strong economic prosperity. It is a thriving precinct with access to a variety of world class education facilities, leading edge health care, affordable housing, unique retailing, spectacular events and entertainment, dining precincts and a wide range of outdoor recreation options. With over 300 days of sunshine each year, Townsville’s lifestyle is second to none.

As a guide, a salary of between $87 - $111K + super will be negotiated with the successful applicant. Benefits include 5 weeks annual leave, 17.5% leave loading, 9-day fortnight/flexible working arrangements and relocation assistance.
