About Council
Yarrabah Aboriginal Shire Council is a progressive local government serving a vibrant community of approximately 5,000 residents. The Position
As CEO you will provide strategic oversight of financial sustainability, governance, workforce capability, and service delivery. As a ‘hands on’ and visible leader you will champion community engagement, drive cultural change, and foster respectful relationships with Traditional Owners, residents, and stakeholders. Key accountabilities include implementing the Corporate and Operational Plans, managing capital works and essential services, advocating for funding and investment, and ensuring compliance with the LG and other relevant legislation. The CEO will also play a pivotal role in shaping economic development, disaster preparedness, and organisational culture.
About You
You are a seasoned executive leader with either a strong track record in local government, Indigenous governance, a similarly complex environment or a combination of these. Your high-level strategic thinking, financial acumen, and deep understanding of public policy and community development are critical. Importantly,, your leadership style is collaborative, culturally respectful, and grounded in integrity. Renowned for your success in leading diverse teams, managing change, and building trust with elected and/or board members and external partners you will have experience working in Indigenous communities or remote settings. Expertise in governance, stakeholder engagement, and Native Title processes and a relevant tertiary qualification is essential, with postgraduate studies in leadership, governance, or community development viewed favourably.
