About Council
Woorabinda Aboriginal Shire Council is seeking a strategic, community-minded Chief Executive Officer to lead its next chapter. Located in Central Queensland and just over 2 hours from Rockhampton, Woorabinda is a proud Aboriginal community with a population of around 1,000 residents and a deep cultural heritage. With a committed Council, strong funding pipeline, and a community eager for progress, this is a rare opportunity to lead a Council that is ready to thrive.
A Role with Purpose
This is more than just a management position – it’s an opportunity to lead projects that directly improve the lives of Woorabinda’s residents. As Project Portfolio Manager, you’ll oversee housing strategies, water and sewerage upgrades, and community facilities that will define the region for generations. Your leadership will ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and in alignment with the Council’s vision of empowerment, sustainability, and cultural strength.
Many of the projects you will be working on are not ‘shovel ready’ and won’t be for another 6 to 12 months so the planning work can be done remotely. Accommodation will be provided when you are required to be in Woorabinda in this initial period and thereafter once work has begun.

About You
To succeed in this role, you’ll bring proven experience in managing complex projects within local government or organisations that have worked with LG, and have a strong understanding of culturally inclusive practices that respect Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. Your ability to collaborate across government, business, and community stakeholders will be matched by sharp financial management skills, ensuring compliance with funding agreements and legislative requirements. With tertiary qualifications or significant project management experience, a current driver’s licence, and a track record of delivering results in controlled environments, you will be well positioned to lead projects that matter and make a tangible difference.
Be Part of Something Bigger!
Joining Woorabinda means becoming part of a proud Indigenous community with deep cultural roots and a strong vision for the future. You will collaborate with Council, stakeholders, and residents to deliver meaningful outcomes while respecting and celebrating Aboriginal traditions. This is your chance to combine professional expertise with social impact, leaving a legacy of infrastructure, opportunity, and empowerment in one of Queensland’s most unique communities located just west of Rockhampton.
