Finance Manager – Paroo Shire Council (Cunnamulla, SW QLD)

Paroo Shire Council is seeking an experienced and motivated Finance Manager to help strengthen Council’s financial sustainability and support delivery of our strategic priorities. This is a full-time position based in Cunnamulla, offering a broad scope of work, supported progression, and the opportunity to contribute to improved processes including input into a new financial system implementation.
About the role
Reporting to the Director Corporate Services, you will lead Council’s finance function and provide clear, timely advice to support sound decision-making and strong governance. You’ll be a key contributor to Council’s financial improvement roadmap and strategic planning, with the opportunity to shape how we work and build capability across the organisation.
Key responsibilities

Oversee day-to-day financial operations, ensuring accuracy, compliance and strong internal controls.

Lead financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting and end-of-period processes.

Provide insightful analysis and advice to support service delivery and long-term financial sustainability.

Support and contribute to the implementation and continuous improvement of finance systems and processes.

Assist with the selection and implementation of a new financial accounting system

Build effective working relationships across Council, communicating financial information clearly and constructively.
What you’ll bring

Proven experience in finance leadership, with strong technical capability and attention to detail.

A collaborative, service-focused approach and the communication skills to build trust with stakeholders.

Commitment, enthusiasm and a willingness to learn paired with the confidence to contribute ideas and drive improvement.

Experience in local government or the public sector is valued, but not essential.

Remuneration & benefits

Salary: up to $120,000 per annum (dependent on experience) + 12% super

9 day fortnight
