Located in South-West Queensland, Paroo Shire hosts the four townships of Cunnamulla, Eulo, Wyandra, Yowah and spans approximately 48,000 square kilometres. Cunnamulla is the main township and serves as the main civic and commercial centre for the Shire.

 

Paroo Shire is well serviced with regular transportation options, community centres, health facilities, P-12 education, sports and recreation, retail and dining, as well as a calendar packed with community events.

 

Reporting to the Director Corporate Services, the Finance Manager is responsible for assisting in maintaining the fiscal health and strategic direction of the Council to achieve long term financial sustainability. You will oversee all financial operations and provide valuable insights to help underpin organisational growth.

 

Key aspects of the position include:

  • Strategic insight – deliver financial advice and analysis to enable informed decision-making practices across the whole of organisation
  • System leadership – drive process improvement and system improvements at an enterprise level
  • Audit and compliance – perform internal and external audit processes that ensure complete compliance with regulatory standards
  • Investigation and complex case management – oversee sensitive matters related to financial recovery and remediation
  • Leadership and capability – oversee the day-t-day operations of AP, AR and creditor functions ensuring adherence to accounting practices and standards

 

To be successful, you will need to competently demonstrate the following criteria:

  • Tertiary qualifications in accounting – must be recognised by Australian Professional Accounting bodies  
  • 3+ years experience in an accounting, management accounting, or finance lead role – local government experience is highly desired
  • Well-developed systems and software experience – Paroo Shire Council uses Practical Plus Finance System
  • Preparation, formulation, control, reporting of annual budget and Council’s monthly and end of year accounts and reporting documents
  • Well-developed analytical, conceptual and problem-solving skills in accounting, annual tax reconciliation, FBT, BAS and other related matters
  • Monitor cashflow, debtor management, and cost control measures that present enduring financial stability
  • Sound understanding of Statutory reporting for the likes of Australian Bureau of Statistics, Department of Housing, Local Government and Planning, Grants and Grants Commission, the ATO and others

 

The position will be offered on a 3-year fixed term contract.
